..memory and performance on my old W98, right? Everytime I try to uninstall W Media Player it comes back, and the best I can find in Control Panel is that there's a hardware conflict.
Thanks.

Uninstalling Windows Media Player will have nothing to do with the installation of your sound blaster card.

Windows media player is part of a suite of software that is installed on your computer and generally cannot be uninstalled because Microsoft doesn't want you to.

It would not cause a hardware conflict.

How do you know there is a hardware conflict? Are you checking the IRQ and Memory address under driver details? or are you looking in the Device manager?

Very Easy.
Control Panel | Add Remove Programs | Add remove Windows Componets on the left hand side, Icon, Just uncheck the box and continue. That will delete Media Player.
Sound Card. Control Panel | System | Device Manager | Sound, video, game controller's, Click open properties on the sound card, Click remove! Turn power off, remove card from computer, then power back up, Then power back off, then, back on with the card installed and let windows reconfigure it. When windows has it all installed, update the driver. Have Fun!
