As a Muslim woman i feel i am qualified to answer this question:

No we are not being discriminated against by men. there is a hadith that says "paradise is at the foot of mother" we are upheld in islam but the true beleivers. because we cover our bodys (as commanded in the quran) does not mean we are subjected to the hand of man.

And it is notmen who say wer are impure. Any type of blood on any person , man or woman, will nullify (void) prayer. when a woman is menstrating she may not have sex, fast, nor is she allowd to pray... any other thing is not off limits. this is to make it easy on her. and just as well as with a man. if he has a gashing wound that does not stop bleeding, he is not permitted to pray because blood is an impurity.

as i said, we were not told by muslim men. all of this is in the quran. your feeling is false.

women are allowed to work, make our own money.. any money we make is OURS, not the mans. he is to support us finacially so if i get money from my husband, its mine. if i make money, its mine. he has no right to it. we are allowed to own property. we can do anything we want.

sorry to inform ya, ya wrong! i am the queen of my castle!

Well you just described what happens in a hasidic jewish household. Women are considered unclean during menstruation, and must not use the same shower as other members of the household. The women wear tied scarves over their heads, or wigs outdoors. They also cover their entire bodies in dumpy clothing. So why would you single out muslim women as the only religious group where this could possibly occur? Muslim women get discriminated against in backwards countries, and in small villages where education is not valued for women. So far any muslim woman I have dealt with seems no different than me in many respects, and I did not feel like I was dealing with a victim of abuse.

This is a two edged sword.

It is one thing to say that Muslim man discriminate against Muslim women by not letting them participate in games or have them cover their bodies and even faces. This I agree is discrimination.

It is also another thing to say that this is part of their religion or belief system. Many of the things the men do are only following the Koran and has nothing to do with discrimination.

Therefore, it could be said that Muslim men are taking advantage of a situation that until is changed or modernized will continue on. This is why I personally do not like religion as a whole because of the man made rules. Maybe women would like to change some of those. Good luck with that.

It depends if your referring to Islam or to the Arabic culture. Women are NOT impure during menstruation, they are just on a break...

All God asks from muslim women is to be modest, not necessarily wearing a veil, but to guard her chastity. Not all Muslim people are like the people you described, only ones from Iraq or Afghanistan for example, although there are more the MAJORITY are NOT like you described.

It's true that muslim women are forced by religion to cover their hole body except of the face and in some very religious countries and the face except from eyes. I also been told from a muslim friend of mine that a woman was excecuted because se had clored nails. They are not allowed to put on make up. I think muslim infringe on human rights of women and promote unequality to young generations.

Wow, you're just sterotyping, women are much more than that, they provide emotional support, serves as nurses, and can dance proabably better than you. Also they spend most of the money that their husbands earn to buy themselves clothing and food (well for herself and her family)

hey man stop judging them and their religion. Women do not have to do it but they CHOOSE TO WEAR THEM because it's their culture.
Furthermore men were the ones that protect the women in the holy land since the establishment of Muslim; i don't see any of them go to war.

you really need to have a sense of empathy before judging.

I just happened to read "liberte" Algerian daily paper where the minister of interior affairs mentioned that there are 5% of women in the Algerian police force. That's an impressive number that you can compare it to many western countries

It's difficult to determine whether or not a muslim woman is faithful or not especially with the influence of western society thence USA. When there are so many so called muslim women who are dating, materialistic, profane, conceited, superficial, and hypocritical as most women are and think that their personal beliefs are more important then religious beliefs. So I think the answer is yes depending on whether or not its deserved or provoked.

well, it really depends... culturally, we have no right to say that their age-old customs are wrong. this is just how it is done in muslim societies. but with the influence of western thoughts( on how women should be treated/femisnisms), we start to think otherwise.
culture and such aside, i think that it is demeaning for women to be treated the way you described it. as far as i know, it was worst in the past. and not only muslim women are treated like this, even hindu women are treated harshly by their society.
i just think that with the bulk of knowledge we have gained from the past and the new things we know now, we should stop being indifferent to each other and outgrow these gender differences and look at each other as equals.

In many religions, not just Islam, women have been discriminated against ever since God was changed from a woman into a man around the time that Judaism got its start.
