LANA
English (esp. U.S.): of uncertain origin. If not simply an invention, it may have been devised as a feminine equivalent of Alan (of which it is an anagram), or an aphetic form of Alana. It seems to have been first used by the film actress Lana Turner (b. 1920), whose original name was Julia. Russian: aphetic short form of Svetlana.
Lana is also Polynesian for harmony.
Polynesia is a large grouping of over 1,000 islands scattered over the central and southern Pacific Ocean.
Lanai on the other hand is Hawaiian for 'balcony.'
I hope this helps...
BEAUTIFUL name by the way!

It is a Russian name, Slavic, in Sweden it would be Sveltlana. I'm not sure what it means, it certainly isn't French as it doesn't pronounce well at all in French. I know a number of Lana's, a few Russian, but most are anglophones - Canadian birth. Mostly between about 22-30 now. Very nice name, I like every Lana I know. I believe it could be a name in other Languages as well, it is a word in Russian, Italian, Polynesian and at least one other. So I would assume it has several meanings.

According to the website "Behind the name.com", it is English and Russian, a short form of ALANA or SVETLANA:
http://www.behindthename.com/nm/l.php
Another site says it is Irish, meaning "a beautiful place":
http://www.zelo.com/firstnames/findresults.asp?name=LANA
Another says it's Polynesian for "harmony": http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Lana.html
Still another, Irish for "peaceful, attractive": http://www.babynamesorigins.com/girlsnames-l.html
