A few weeks ago I logged onto my computer and instead of the normal background picture, the background was just black. I went into the properties and when I tried to change it back, I was unable to select any pictures or even try to open pictures to put as the background, I can only change the color. This happened before and I ran AdAware a bunch of times and I was able to change the background. I tried this approach again with no success. When I shutdown the computer though before it gets to the actual screen where it says, "Windows is shutting down" it shows the picture that I had originally for a background. I'm using Windows XP if that helps. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try the active desktop button - i think you have a problem there.
am surprised it didn't mention "facing some some problem - do you want to restore active desktop"

Just run a search within your PC for active desktop
