She deserved it, of course, but we all know her as a singer first.

I know what you're saying, but it's just the way it worked out. Right off the bat she got a part in that musical and did a kick a** job. :) She didn't even win American Idol, and she's still making it big doing what she loves. I just see her as a symbol of how anyone who is dedicated can achieve their dreams.

I find this question intriguing and could not resist the opportunity to respond to it,duffnation. You see all it comes down to is a matter of perspective. When you talk Oscar/Grammy awards---these are 2 completely separate entities.Oscar being excellence in a movie acting performance.Grammy being excellence in song or band release,as I'm sure you're aware. While they are both forms of public entertainment, neither has anything to do with the other.Although Jennifer Hudson has no major accolades singing yet,the Academy judges felt her performance was outstanding for the character she played in"Dreamgirls"---so all else is irrelevant. One could even say she found her element in that role.I personally thought she did a great job!By the same token those American Idol winners that won Grammys may never see an Oscar nomination if they do star in movies---it all depends on the performance given to be fulfilled. Those judges don't care what you've already done on both sides of the fence. They just want to see if you can dish out the goods for their cause.Strict, isolated, focused and unbiased judging, the way it should always be in these yearly award shows! I hope this does clear it all up for you member!
