while women of that age are still capable of having children, the increase for neural tube birth defects, such as downs syndrome, greatly increase after 35.

I am an obgyn nurse and NO it is NOT too late...BUT
PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR FIRST! You need to be on vitamins early, and you'll probably want to have some testing done at his recommendation. Also, if you do concieve...he can let you know what tests are available...you are at a risk of about 1/150 that you will have a baby with Downs syndrome...so amke sure you talk over the risks of diseases and disabilities, etc.
Please don't give up...at least twice a week I deliver first time babies to 35 and up...you'll be considered high risk...so be prepared to have to take time off of work for bed rest, or things like that...but there is NO reason you shouldn't have a family if you want one...I work for a great doc here in Chicago who specializes in high risk...if you live in the area IM me and I'll give you his info.

Absolutely not too old! You will bring wisdom, calmness and patience to raising your child. Just be sure to have folic acid daily for at least 3 months prior to getting pregnant to avoid the risks associated with having a baby over the age of 35. Good luck and enjoy!!

Not al all these days! If you truly want a baby and you don't try now, you may lose your chance and regret if for the rest of your life. You may need a little help so ask your Dr. for Clomid which is a mild fertility drug you can use in conjuction with ovulation predictors so you can maximize your chances. Good luck.
PS I have a coworker who had her first at 44 and is totally in love with her gorgeous healthy baby girl. Good luck!

I had my first at 32 and my last one at 39. Both my children are healthy. You should discuss this with your doc and probably a genetic councilor. They can tell you about risks associated with being over the age of 35.

No, not too old. But be prepared for some potential problems with either getting or staying pregnant. By the time you are 40, 90% of a woman's eggs have some problem with them-so your chances of miscarriage might be slightly higher.

No ! But it may be harder to conceive now, and you'll have to have some additional testing done and be monitored more closely. It's also higher risk for both you and the baby. But I have a friend who had her first child at age 42, and everything went fine. I've heard of people even older, but don't know any personally.

I don't think so but you might have a problem getting pregnant since the probabilty of you getting pregnant is decresed and birth defects are more prone to occur. If I was you I would still go for it because if you feel the time is right then you should. Best of luck.

I got pregnant for the first time, at 41, had a healthy enjoyable pregnancy (except for the heartburn) and gave birth to a healthy baby 2 weeks before my 42nd birthday. Go for it. It's well worth it.

I don't think 39 is too old, however there are more risks involved when you're over 35. good luck.

Biologically, yes...but it isn't impossible! If you take the responsibility seriously and take good care of your body, you will most definitely be able to carry a perfectly healthy child without harming yourself as well. Babies are gifts from God, and if it is meant to be, it will be. Good luck!
