A true friend will never ask you for more than you can give. Set your limits and tell them your limits. A true friend will never ever judge you, he/she will be there for you no matter what cr*p is happening in your life. A true friend will always tell you the truth no matter what the consequences are. A true friend will be there when you make a bad decision even though they told you not too, and still be by your side when you cry and tell them they were right and never once ever say I told you so. And a true friend will always love you with unconditional love, now and always, and probably be closer to you than a parent or sibling. A true friend is usually sown by trust throughout many years. A true person will have no reason to lie, cheat, be jealous or hurt you in anyway. They love you for who you are and nothing will change that. Especially when "time" can change their lifestyle. A friend will always be a friend if they are worthy of a friendship.
Many who offer a friendship freely, never receive the same in return because the person who received the friendship never was a friend or didn't know how to be a friend . So they weren't worthy of a friendship to begin with.

there's something that has been going around the internet for awhile now... it's about friends. i don't remember it verbatim but it goes something like....
a friend is someone you call when youre in jail and need to be bailed out
a best (true) friend is someone who is sitting in the jail cell with you saying, "that was a hell of a ride".

a true friends sticks by you through everything no matter what... they're rare but when you find one it's one of the most beautiful things you can have.

a true friend is someone you can count on no matter what is going on in your life or theirs. someone that doesn't mind listening to your problems and gives either support or tells you when your making a mistake. A true friend is someone you can trust with everything.

a true friend is a person who cares for you
is supportive of your good choices and helps you solve or fix your bad choices
they ask how are you every couple of days
just listens to you no matter how boring
is there for you during the good and bad
they don't care what you wear or whatever they like you for you and who you are
you share this bond of you would do anything for that person and they would do anything for you
