Why do we have people telling us that it is okay to suck at maths?
Why do we have parents telling their children who have passion in maths, to forget it and treat their subject as a mere preresquisite to a medical school?
Why do we have the movies portraying math geniuses as short, ugly, cowardly, pencil-necked, bookish, freckle-ridden, D&D obsessed, Yu-Gi-Oh card collecting nerds everyone wants to push to the mud at the school gates?
And working mathematicians as idiots who couldn't think anything else than numbers?

Have you seen the TV show "Numbers"? It's about mathematicians who solve crimes, and one of them is *very* good-looking, too. You might like it.

I am dyscalculiate (numeric-dyslexic.) I'm glad it's okay for me to suck at math. I'm also extremely grateful for people who don't suck at math, such as the sexy math genius I married, who balances our checkbooks easily and can do a sudoku in five minutes.

I think there needs to be some balance, and some people should have more respect for people who can do math. It's not just numbers on a page--it's figuring out how big a car can be, what can fit in a house, money, etc.

I'm not really sure, math is universal and should have much more importance put on it. The same goes for literacy, why is it not important anymore to teach children to read? it seems to me that these are fundamental subjects all people should be encouraging.

Mathematics considered as the cause of all development. All sciences are related to this subject, without which no progress would have been achieved by the mankind at all.
This apart, I have not come across the majority of the society who are against this subject.
