Emo. Only their crappy emo fans, who shop at hot topic, try to insist that they're not, but deep down they know they are.

They've actually described themselves as dangerously violent pop.
It's not emo, emo was a music genre that became really popular in the 80's, but it's not around anymore. The music today that is labeled "emo" is overly dramatic emotional music with a message of hopelessness, and MCR's new music doesn't have that message at all.
People tend to label things, espescially things they don't like, whether it's good or bad. My Chemical Romance gets labeled emo all the time because some of the band members wear eyeliner and some have longer hair, and when people think that they assume that they must be emo or punk or something.

They are not emo, I actually agree with the first answerer, because I read that too,
Emo music is "emotive hardcore" a sub genre of punk that has died out in the 90s. not short for emotional...ok.
So to the people who have no legit reason for hating them and them being "gay" doesn't count, why don't you do some research before insulting things you know nothing about. You don't like MCR fine, grow up and quit the bashing.
So yeah, they are violent pop music. Not punk, or pop-punk.

"emo" doesn't mean anything anymore...it was lost in translation a while ago.
i wouldn't say they're punk though. but i guess "punk" encompasses a lot nowadays too.
if you are into them, describe their genre as 'awesome'. always works.
