It's very simple: During the explosive growth period of the Mormon church in the mid to late 1800s, there was a huge number of Scandinavian converts to the church who emigrated to Utah. Notice in any Utah phone book the number of Anderson/sen, Jenson/sen, Peterson/sen, etc. names. These were all blonde, blue-eyed people who filled Utah with blonde, blue-eyed genes. It's just simple biology. There was NO inherent racism in the Mormon church (except against blacks) in the 19th or 20th centuries, and the institutional anti-black racism was eliminated in the 1980s.

Mormons are not racist. I am one and amd not biased against something so ludicrous as skin color. We are very accepting of other races, in fact I go to a biligual ward where more then half the ward is hispanic. There are also several african american families and a chinese family. I think there are a lot of blondes in Utah for the proposed answers, the pioneers who moved there were white and blonde and had kids who were white and blonde. Simple genetics. I wouldn't say there were a lot of blondes in Utah now that I think of it, I didn't notice more there then there were elsewhere in the U.S. I live in Dallas and we have plenty of blondes, both fake and natural, here.

I don't know, but I think Utah was late to be developed so there wasn't a lot of time for different groups to mix like in other parts of the US.. Also, it was mostly Mormon and at that time I think a lot of the Mormon converts were second generation arrivals from Scandinavian countries.. Much the same way as in states like Minnesota.. Only the Mormons were Racist and didn't believe in race mixing as much...Yes its true... ever notice how a lot of Mormons have last names like Andersen, Paul-sen, Jorgensen, etc. spelled Sen instead of son. I'm pretty sure that is Scandinavian.
Notice how I was careful to say that Mormons WERE racist and they most certainly were... No, don't believe me
Well - let's look at the words of Ol' Brigham Young, shall we??
"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind.
The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings.
This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the "servant of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed."
Brigham Young-President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877- Extract from Journal of Discourses.
