I received some constructive critisicism from my boss today. He told me I need to work on lowering my volume on my calls. I know I have always talked loudly on the phone and realize it is a problem. Any advise or techniques for lowering the my voice? "Please, serious answers only!"

One issue is that you might have a digital telephone system at work. With digital telephones, you don't hear yourself talk like you do on analog telephones, so many people talk louder.

Write down or remember each time you are on the telephone, that it is digital and the other party can hear you even when you whisper most of the time. After a little pratice, your volume will go down.

If you realize that you are talking too loudly then the simplest method would be to classically condition yourself to talk more quietly. Everytime you talk at an appropriate volume, reward yourself with something that you enjoy, such as a piece of candy. Everytime you don't, withhold yourself from getting that piece of candy or other such reinforcer. After a time period, you will become conditioned to lower your voice. This is how psychologists solve many behavioral problems, such as overeating.

Try to breathe more fuller and really let your voice just come. Maybe yoga could help.
