I do the church anouncements in a small rual town and we have just got our Projector System in. I have been using powerpoint since 5th grade and I know how to use Powerpoint but cannot think of any fun things to make it exciting, like movies or music videos. We have a lot of elderly people so i do not think "FLASHY" things would not be a good idea.

Show pictures of your current church building morphing into the building of your dreams.
Make pictures of a hand (the hand of God) with the palm upturned, holding church people in it's palm.

If nothing else, you can always use the transition options to change how each slide goes out/in. That way, you get something not boring, but not too flashy.
