Bars I'm looking for are more local , but with an atomosphere...not dance clubs...
Hard rock, rock, jazz, bars with live bands or something to see also bars with a large Beer menu... not franchises... been there done that...PS I live in Chicago and traveled the world

My suggestion to you is to just get on the Riverwalk and start walking and listen for a place that sounds good to you.

Mad Dogs is fun, Dirty Nellies is a hoot. It will all depend on your mood at the time. Swigs is a pretty good martini bar. It really is a "you name it and it's out there" kind of place. Talk to your bartender at the hotel, they will probably be able to turn you on to some really good "street level" places near the hotel.

Have fun and enjoy our city.

Also check out Davenports which is next to the Valencia Hotel on Houston Street. Mad Dogs was fun but the crowd started getting alittle thugged but local idiots. BTW, the building that used to have Hollywood and a club (Rive, I think) is now sold and slated to be demolished for another high rise condo.

BTW, I love Chicago. I spent some time up there for training. I love my old hometown of SA but Chicago blows us out of the urban water!!! Enjoy your trip here...at least the weather will be nice!

Your questions is too vague. There is a HUGE variety of bars down the entire length of the Riverwalk. The obvious solution is to start at one end and make your way down one bar at a time. You're guaranteed not to lose!

A personal favorite of mine is Howl at the Moon and Swigs. Pat O' Brian's is nice place but not necessarily on the Riverwalk.

I always go back to Dirty Nellie's.

I used go often back when I lived in SA. I've even had Irish friends go there and say they loved the place. From the peanut shells on the floor to the piano player, I heartily recommend it. I've been to Dick's, and I wasn't thrilled.

***** last resort and planet Hollywood are good. At ***** you need to have an open mind about the atmosphere, the wait staff are paid to be rude.
