the 1st century was from yr 1ad to 100ad, so year 100 to 200 was the second century, and so on, so counting the first as 1 to 100, this is the 21st.

All of the previous answers are correct, except for one very, very incorrect thing. The year 0 never existed! The first year of our era (Christian era, that is) was called, simply, year 1.
