Mary (Also known as "Bloody Mary", Daughter of Henry VIII & Katherine of Aragon) did come to the throne, as she was next in line after Edward (Son of Henry VIII & Jane Seymour) - Third in line was Elizabeth.

You are getting mixed up between two different Marys, although they have some similarities.
Mary I became the Queen of England after her half-brother Edward VI died. She was a Roman Catholic, and she undid all of the Protestant reformations brought in by her father Henry VIII and her brother. But when she died, her Protestant half-sister Elizabeth I became Queen and redid all these Protestant reformations again.
Mary Queen of Scots was the Roman Catholic Queen of a Protestant Scotland, and by today's rules of succession she was next in line to be Queen of England, if Elizabeth had died. But in those days, the rules were less clear, and there were other things that also mattered.
It is not at all clear whether Parliament, or the nobles, or the common people would have consented to Mary of Scots becoming Queen of England. The uncertainties are evident from the case of Lady Jane Grey, who was named as the next monarch by Edward VI in his will, but was deposed after nine days in favour of Mary I. The power of Parliament in the matter is further shown by its deposition of one monarch in 1688, and its choice of another.
But although there has been an Anglican Church under a Protestant monarch for nearly 450 years, there is still a significant proportion of its clergy and members who would be just as happy, or even happier, if it suddenly became Roman Catholic again.

Having a ruling Queen was not something England was used to. Mary Tudor (Mary I)was the first Queen regnant of England (if you don't count Jane Grey). Matilda should have been Queen on the death of Henry I in 1135 but this was refused to her and her cousin Stephen of Blois seized the throne. Matilda's son became Henry II. Henry was the first of the Plantagenets whose dynasty ended with the death of Richard III and the usurpation of the throne by Henry Tudor, Henry VII.
When Mary I died, Elizabeth came to the throne. Had she died before Mary of Scotland, technically, Mary should have been Queen but I think some accident would have befallen her and her son James would have been installed as monarch - as he later was. The line would have to have gone that way as the last of the Plantagenets had been removed by Henry VIII.

Actually, I believe that Mary was forced to renounce all claims to the English throne before being allowed into the country (where she was seeking sanctuary). Her son James took over her claims.
Now, if Elizabeth HAD died before Mary, I think Mary would have still fought tooth and nail to get the crown.

Yes, she would have been the First Catholic Monarch in the event that Elizabet died. I wonder however, if the Titled Nobility who had been created by Henry would have let Mary ascend to the throne.
