I'm a junior in high school and plan on going to NYU. But, I want a Masters Degree in Physchology and a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy. What would I do for my major and minor to still get good degrees for the two and keep them equally balanced? I plan to be a physchologist for quite a few years and then just go on to being a pharmacist when I'm older and just chillax from there. How should I plan this out to where I could still get good jobs in both?

Dear Aaron,

You are going to have to rethink your plans, and research your options a bit better.

First, one cannot get a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. One goes to pharmacy school AFTER one completes college.

In order to qualify for pharmacy school admission, one must take "pre-med" courses, including 2 years of chemistry (with labs, including organic), 2 years of biology (with labs), 1 year of physics, 1 year of English, and sometimes 1 year of calculus. You can major in anything you want, just make sure to take all the necessary pre-med courses. It is very difficult to gain admission to pharmacy schools, so you must have a very high GPA, and do extremely well on the PCAT, which is the pharmacy school admission exam.

Now to psychology. A Masters degree in psychology will indeed allow one to become a counselor. An undergraduate major in psychology is desired in order to gain admission to a Masters program in psych.

So conceivably, you could major in psych, and take all of your pre-med requirements, but when it is time for grad school, you will have to choose one or the other. If you choose a Masters degree in psych, and wish to practice as a counselor for a while, and then apply to pharm school years and years later, you will be competing for pharm school admission against candidates whose science coursework is fresh in their minds, and who will therefore do better on the PCAT than you will. (PCAT scores expire after 5 years, so you'd have to retest.)

I hope this information helps you to focus your ambitions.

Best wishes to you.

Pharmacy's going to be one of those fields where to keep up your certification, you'll probably need at least some post-graduate work, plus continued education. As a result, you may not be able to just jump from one career to the other one as seamlessly as you might think.

No earnings to shifting. perspective is great, no disrespect to dad.. What I easily have heard is that utilising 2 separate establishments will charm to destiny employers. working example, in case you're graduating from Mercer along with your undergrad- it is great- there are some impressive alumni there. Likewise there are extremely some human beings who went to Auburn... they advantageous could opt for to hire one in all their very own additionally. be responsive to what I advise? i think of value, region, levels offered, universal possibilities, etc. are all extra significant than perspective. after all, you may desire to get perspective by utilising traveling extra after college.
