There are a couple of products that are VERY EFFECTIVE in eliminating existing nutsedge from lawns/turf. Although they're not available to homeowners, they can be applied by a professional lawn care company. I'd suggest you call and ask if they apply "Basagran" (bentazon) or "Manage" (halosulfuron).

Keep in mind that nutsedge is usually found whereever you have poor drainage. Standing water or poor drainage create ideal conditions for the growth of nutsedge.

Try aerating your existing lawn and fill the holes with good compost. (This can be done by placing the compost on your lawn and then using a large broom to brush in the holes). The active bacteria and fungi in the compost should help improve soil structure and increase the root mass of your lawn. If you want, you can scatter grass seed afterwards to help fill-in those bare spots. Just remember that nutsedge usually doesn't establish itself whenever you have dense/healthy turf.

Hope you found this information helpful. GOOD LUCK getting rid of your problem.

"Image" weed killer is FANTASTIC. It will kill almost everything except the grass. Just mix it in a hose end sprayer and water everything.

The lawn part of your question depends on where you live, what kind of grass you want, your budget and how long you are willing to wait.
