One of my best friends had sex while she was on her period and usually her "bleeding" (icky i know, it is all the time) lasts for about 7 days. She has it rough! But the day after she had unprotected sex, her period started to get much lighter when usually that's one of her heaviest days and her period ended early. She thinks she's pregnant. I know it's possible to get pregnant on your period, but can someone help me give her a little bit of reassurance because even I don't know. Just help me calm her down, she's starting to get a litle freaked out. Thanks guys!

Well, first of all, YOU CAN GET PREGNANT WHILE YOU ARE ON YOUR PERIOD. After that though, you can change how much fluid is coming out by having a big blunt thing poking in you (although I have sex during my period all the time, it's no big deal).

Your friend probably isn't pregnant, although she will not know she's pregnant for awhile (6 weeks or so). Odds are though, if she had unprotected sex during the first 5 days of her period, she will not be pregnant. After that, your body could theoretically be producing fertile cervical fluid and you wouldn't know because your period would be covering it up. Tell her NOT to do that again, but as long as it was during the first 5 days, she's probably fine. I'll reference a SUPER good book that you can get at the library if you need to about fertility.

By the way, I just read someone else's answer, and it is incorrect that you ovulate 28-30 days after your period. Textbook is 14 days, but mine is more like 18 days, It differs per person. You have fertile cervical fluid before that that can keep the sperm alive until you ovulate. Read more about it in the book, free from the library or 16 bucks at the store.

Since she is willing to take such risks, I suppose it will only be a matter of time before pregnancy happens anyway...but perhaps, if not now, then maybe she will have learned to be more careful in the future. Anyway, She should take a pregnancy test. If you wanna tell her something to help her feel better, tell her that maybe she was dehydrated and THAT caused her period to stop. Yeah, RIGHT!

I wouldn't worry about it. There is a SLIGHT chance you could get pregnant on your period, but the chance is slim to none. You have to ovulate in order to get pregnant, and that happens 28-31 days after the first day of your period. I know this is gross, but maybe she bled alot while they were doing that, b/c of pressure and all that. She could have lost alot of her blood then to make her period lighter in the days to come. I would tell her not to worry.

With stating all that, also tell her not to do it w/out protection! It's easy and you don't have to worry your head off!
