I am 9 and a half weeks pregnant and I was told I have Subchorionic Hematoma, a blood clot in my uterus, about 3 weeks ago. A few days ago I was looking at some websites online to get some information about it and they all said I should avoid intercourse. Well, my doctor never told me this! My husband and I have been having sex without knowing this could harm our child. I decided to call my doctor today to see if these websites were correct. She told me I should not have intercourse because of the blood clot and she had to call me back tomorrow so I didn't get to ask many questions. My question is, what could happen from my husband and I having sex for those 3 weeks? I'm having bad cramping and spotting. I hope I didn't harm my baby!

Bad cramping and spotting does not sound good. I would get checked out, perhaps an u/s to check on baby. Your doctor should of informed you to not have sex.

I have had a subchorionic Hematoma and a following subchorionic hemorrhage. Intercourse can dislodge the clot, this can cause several things. First, it can cause hemorrhaging which may or may not be bad for you, depending on how much blood you loose. Second, if you dislodge the clot it could dilsodge the placenta, it all depends on where the clot is and how big it is. If the clot is on the outter edge of the placenta than there is not alot of risk to your baby. If the clot is REALLY big (on the edge or not) or if it located in the center of the placenta then dislodging it would cause is to "knock" off the placenta. Bleeding with a SH is not abnormal the cramping could be due to the fact that you are still early in pregnancy. I had a lot of period like cramping in early pregnancy that didn't go away until about week 12. At week 9 my Hematoma ruptured and hemorrhaged. I just new that my baby was gone, but not so. He never even knew anything was going on. The clot was on the outter edge and actually got smaller and disapeared all together after the hemorrhage. I had no other problems from the SH and it did not reappear. Most disappear before week 20. Good luck.

I have never heard of this condition before so I cant answer that. I have however been pregnant 3 times, any bleeding and or cramping (beyond normal nausea) needs to be taken seriously. If you cant get a hold of your OB than you need to go to the ER to check the babies heart rate and possibly have an ultrasound.

The baby could come out with a fear of cigars.
