It has nothing to do with race. Stop playing that as an excuse for everything that happens in society. Maybe his coaching styles and techniques are a little troublesome to the organization. Maybe they question the ability to produce Rex Grossman or any future QB. Maybe the believe it was a one season deal and that is that. Like the person said above, it is business. Get a coach that led a team to the Super Bowl and don't have to pay him as much as anyone else, then you got a nice business. I don't hear him complaining. Have you ever thought that maybe it doesn't bother him and he sees it as very benificial to the team. Think of other scenarios besides the race card. I doubt it has anything to do with it considering the majority of the team is African American.
And maybe Ron Rivera wanted to go to San Diego. Saw the opportunity to be able and step up into a possible head coaching job with the loss of Marty. Or saw an actual chance at winning a Super Bowl with both a talented offense and defense. Who knows, but I highly doubt him being a Latino or Hispanic had anything to do with it.

I agree racism is still a huge part of the world today but I think it has more to do with the fact that Chicago is just cheap rather than his race or at least I hope thats the case. From what I hear Chicago has a history of not wanting to pay coaches top dollar. That may be why they lost so much before Lovie got there and why they will go back to their losing ways when he leaves.

The problem is not that people keep "playing the race card". The problem is that racism does still exist and the fact that people keep denying that it exist ,does not help it go away. Unless you have every been stereotyped or discriminted against you probably wouldnt know. So instead of just shoving what people say to the side as if it is a bunch of B.S., you should listen because believe it or not some of them are telling the truth.

The Rivera firing was Lovie Smith's decision to go in another direction at defensive coordinator so I do not agree that the race card came into play as with Rivera. As for Lovie Smith, I really have the foggiest idea why Angelo is penny pinching. He got his team to the Bowl inspite of Grossman. Smith is the key to stability and contention for this team. Otherwise, with a "lame duck" coach, players and FA's on other teams will be less likely to sign with the Bears come 2008. Until then, there will be distractions and regressions for the 2007 Bears without a "Happy Lovie."

I doubt race has anything to do with his contract. I understand your feelings but using simple logic if race were an issue with Bears management they wouldnt have hired Lovie in the first place. The Bears have historically paid at the lower end of the scale...Lovie knew this going in and he did sign a contract. Why do you think Ditka left? Bear management is cheap, being tight with a dollar could make them possibly another racial term? That would be very sad if somebody used a slang of any form so lets call it what it is....CHEAP!!!! I agree he has proven he deserves to be paid a lot better but on the other hand he didnt have to sign a bad deal in the first place (granted he probably doesnt get the job if he demands more but he isnt the first coach to go through the earn it before you get it situation). In the end he will get his financial due whether it is in Chicago or elsewhere. Rivera wanted out of Chicago (and Lovie said he wanted to go a different way....surely Lovie isnt any more a racist than the bears management), he felt his career was being stymied by being in the same place doing the same thing for so long. He has been a head coach candidate and believe me he is listening very closely to the input from teams interviewing him and realized he needed to work his craft with a different set of talent. it was very wise of him to go to S.D. and he is very aware that if the D does well he will be a candidate to take over a very good Charger team. Turner wont last long there, everybody in the NFL knows this...including Rivera. Lovie had more to do Riverawith leaving Chicago than the Bear management did, he did it to advance his career and instead of ripping Chicago be grateful he was given such a wonderful opportunity. It surprises me you would think something fishy is going on there, they have given minority coaches more opportunities than a lot of teams do and those very guys have capitalized on their situations. Sounds decidedly more like they have created opportunities, not stolen it from minorities.

The following is a link and the question that link will take you to and last, the answer that I gave to that question.

How can Chicago Bear fans get the message through to the front office to show Lovie Smith the money!?!?
They’re probably waiting to see if he gets any other offers before they make him an offer.
They got him for a steal and if possible, want to keep him for a steal.
This question kinda relates to salary cap issue. You may want to respond to this question: Are you for or against the salary cap?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
You have players you want to keep that help the team win and keep the seats filled and so many think that coaching doesn’t have that much to do with the player performance.
Maybe the Chicago owners and GM are of that ilk and think it more prudent to pay the player more instead of the coach(es).
Racism?
ItCOULD BE because he's black, but I seriously doubt it and prayerfully hope not.
Those that discussed the race issue have valid points on both sides of the argument, however, just in case you didn't understand what my previous statement is, I will restate it.
I believe it to be moreso that the Chicago Bear ownership and it's managerial consorts are just plain CHEAP.
In addition, they probably think that they can keep the same players or most of them and bring in new coaching staff that can take them back to the Super Bowl this upcoming '07-'08 season and win.

Lovie's lack of a contract at this point has more to do with the really cheap owner and GM in Chicago. They have a history of trying to hold down coaching salaries. This same thing happened when Mike Ditka was the head coach in Chicago (he was white in case you are too young to remember).
As for Ron Rivera's situation, I believe if you do some checking, you will find that Lovie Smith made the decision to let him go rather than offer him a contract extention. So, this too had nothing to do with racism. That is, unless Lovie has a problem with Latinos, which I think is highly unlikely.

I would like to start off by saying that I don't think that this is motivted by race. The owners of the bears have history of being cheap with their coaches. They currently have the lowest paid staff in the NFL, not just Lovie. Second you should do a little research because if you did you would see that white people are not the highest paid people in the country. Asian people actually make $1.18 for every dollar a white male makes. I am not saying that this means racism does not exist I am just saying that there are people of color who make more than white people.

Believe it or not, every bad thing that happens to black people is not due to racism. And I am one " white trash " person that is sick of hearing it. There would be a lot less racism in this counrty if everyone would stop making a big deal of it. The thought never crossed my mind that two black coaches were in the Super Bowl until everyone made a huge deal of it. I like and respect both coaches. If either acted like Buddy Ryan, I would have hoped they both lost. Stop playing the race card unless it is something that has some proof behind it. It is getting old. And what is wrong with finishing your current contract before being offered a new one?

It's not race, considering the team is in Chicago, known for its large population of African-Americans. There's always going to be a "lowest-paid" coach in the NFL. I think it's merely coincidence with Lovie Smith being in the Super Bowl. That and his religion might have something to do with it, his life goal isn't accumulating wealth, so he probably isn't pushing as hard for his worth.

It's not because of his race. Chicago is notorious for underpaying their coaches....Ditka being one and he's about as white as it gets. And as far as Rivera, his contract was up with Chicago and it was LOVIE SMITH who decided not to retain him on his staff. Not the organization, but LOVIE SMITH. All it was was a difference in the direction each coach wanted to take the team.
I hate it when people who are totally ignorant of what's going on with a team post a question like this. And even better, post a comment in their question calling white people "all you caucasians..". Isn't that being a bit racist you think?
Ironic to post a question complaining about "racism" (which I might add hasn't occured in this situation)....only to fill it up with racist comments. You're such a hypocrite.
