something cute would be a kind of poofy short skirt with leggings and an oversize sweatshirt that hangs off the shoulder, with a tank top underneath so you can see the straps. if you have bangs, tease them up really big. just make your hair big in general. the key is lots of hairspray. for makeup, try bright eyeshadow and bright red or pink lipstick.
the 80's are a fun time period to play with...have fun!

I grew up in the 80's and it was great. You can look up some great hairstyles on the internet thru google. Mainly, it was big hair (teased heavily and the bangs had to be teased high as well), crimped hair was very big- using a crimping iron. They are not very expensive and can be found at Walmart or sometimes even in the cheap discount stores like Big Lots. As far as clothes are concerned...you could wear a mini-skirt with leggings underneath and a cute off-the-shoulder top layered with a solid color tank top. Maybe some bangles and hoop earrings to help you accessorize and definitely some sort of lacey ribbon in your hair.
You can get some ideas by looking up pictures of Madonna, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and Paula Abdul just to name a few.

Since it's a dance maybe you want a slightly dressier 80's version. I have seen these long tunic shirts in the stores lately... that look was also popular in the 80's.Try to find one that's slightly off the shoulders and red and white striped.Wear it with a big belt and black leggings. Wear thin ankle type socks with a pair of spikey high heels. Tease your hair to make it big and large hoop earrings. For make up use LIQUID black eyeliner and massacre and red lipstick. For jewelry silver big hoop earings were big ! and Bangle bracelets were popular .... wear at least 3-4 on your wrist.
How old is your mom I bet she would love to help you with a 80's look.Try not to get too costumey though.
How about looking at some of mom's old photos to get a idea for a look.
Here's a website with REAL 80's pictures http://www.only80s.com/RealPeopleReally80s.html

Find a shirt with bold print (preferably hot pink and chartruese green). Add straight leg solid color pants or a short straight skirt to match. Hot pink high top tennis shoes, 1 hot pink sock, 1 chartreuse sock. Buy a pair of bright pink dangly earrings and a pair of bright green earrings just like the pink ones. Wear one of each. Make your hair big and curly and wear either a pink or green head band or both colors. Watch band to match either color.

mutually as i think of a few individuals can pull it off in a stellar way, i will certainly not be donning a bunny suit this 365 days. the colors that are on exhibit this season SOOOO conflict with my orange and plumb colored hair.

lets see: maybe a frayed miniskirt, leggings(bright ones), Converse high tops probably black, maybe a band tee(you can get these @ Walmart), those jelly bracelets, some really big earrings and crimp maybe the top of your hair and leave the under straight, and maybe some black eye liner. Hope this helps!

Black leggings, puffy short skirt, curl your hair and tie a head band around it, maybe even put it up...sloppily, not perfect. tank top with baggy shirt on top of that that slips off one shoulder. Just one.
