Not at all. I believe he is a mediocre director at best. "The Departed" was a decent movie but not academy worthy. If you would have taken Martin Scorsese's name off that film, it wouldn't have been in the awards. The same with "Babel" If that movie was filmed without big names like Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, It wouldn't have had as much recognition.

Yes, definitely so. He and Robert Altman belong to the very precious and most creative group of American Filmmakers that the HOLLYWOOD Academy voters had shamefully overlooked for too long!

Yeah, he's a great director and I'm glad he got one finally.
I don't think they "waited". He just got beaten. Some of the movies we was nominated for didn't deserve it (Like Gangs of NY). His best one (Taxi Driver) wasn't even nominated.
