first you need to assess why you are having knee pain. There may be several factors involved here. You may have either gotten taller, gained weight (or both), or have injured it lately. Whatever the case, this has shifted your emphasis to a part of the body (your knee) that was not usually affected. You may need to re-learn form in order to compensate for this change.

As a coach, I stress the importance of stretching. For a heal stretch, this would be your core and thighs. I recommend pilates.
If you do not have access to a pilates course/equipment, then the following may help.

Sit on your behind with your legs straddled in front of you as far as you can comfortably put them. Reach for each leg and try to touch your nose to your knee...hold for 30 seconds. Reach for the center as far as you can and drop your body to the floor, trying to touch your nose to the floor. Once you can do these, try moving your legs further and further part. Finally, as you progress, lay the side of your head to your knees and to the floor.

I would also work on butterflys, v-ups and straddle ups.

As far as the scorpion goes, this is in essense a liberty where you grab the toe of the bent leg and pull it up behind your head. This requires agility and balance, as you must thrust your upper body frontward to compensate for the weight shift of your arms and legs in the back....it is a stunt that is certainly not for beginning flyers.

Work on this at floor level before even trying to attempt in the air. You should be able to hold the scorpion pose for a minimum of 20 seconds on floor level. before doing the stunt. Please do not try to perform this without your coach being present!

Best of wishes to you!

Stretch every night and on your spare time! I'm a flyer and you should take about 10 minutes stretching so you can do a liberty heel stretch really high. Just practice this in a mirror or go to a cheerleading gym or cheerleading classes and they'll help you out or a cheer coach or anybody professional!

hey, how about you strtch it just a little bit more each day until you can get it to where you used to be able to get it. Dont go all at once trying to do it, if you do you may hurt it again just stretch it a little bit more aeach day.
