Some are but you need to read the labels. Many have warning statements that include eye irritants, possible staining and also if it says keep away from pets or children, don't use.
I have the perfect SAFE product to get rid of odors that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. Just place a few around the problem areas. I use this product everywhere including car, storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying.

No. They aren't safe around humans or pets. Most supermarket air fresheners contain many toxic ingredients and do nothing more than cover up the odor with another, or interfere with your sense of smell. Do not use them. I've used something called "air sense" for a few years now. I buy it at Whole Foods Market but here's a link to where you can buy it. It may seem expensive compared to the others, but one can will last as long as four cans of the kind you would buy in the supermarket. Another option is to make your own by adding a few drops of essential oil(such as lavender, lime, etc) to a spray bottle of water.

It will take a few days (around 5 or 6) to see some drastic improvements for your ratty. You did a good thing by taking him to the vet. The syringe is the best way to get him to eat; try baby foods, mine LOVE the baby foods, especially the peas and peaches ones, also try baby rice cereal. You can feed him any of the baby food basically except things with beats and beans. Also, to keep him hydrated try pedialyte, and a half/half mixture of Gatorade and water, fruit punch is my ratty's fav and helps them stay hydrated when they are sick. Yogurt is also a good and easy food to give them via a syringe, but this can cause some fairly runny poop if given too much, chicken gravy is good in small quantities for some good protein. Also, when he gets well enough to not have to eat out of a syringe, do soft foods for a bit, they can all sorts of fruit which is usually pretty soft and pick extra moist ones such as cantaloupe. I wouldn't give him hard food like rat blocks until he is eating normal and drinking normal. Hope this helps and if you need any more suggestions and help, feel free to email me. Remember to give him things to chew on since he will be eating a lot of soft food that wont help wear down his teeth or your have more of a problem than you started with. Hope this helps!

Check out www.ecoquest.com and get an air purifier that will eliminate the odors for a WHOLE HOUSE rather than spraying stuff to just "mask" the problem. These totally eliminate the problem and are safe for humans and pets!

I wouldn't try using air fresheners around pets. I have Lysol at home, and it says on the can that it should only be used in well ventilated areas because it is hazardous to your health.
Pets tend to be more sensitive than humans...so I wouldn't try using these air fresheners around pets.

I myself don't use air fresheners around my pets. If you do use it, make sure that they are not around and that you have enough ventilation.
