Hi,i have
2 Jungle Carpet Pythons
1 Ball Python
I'm looking at one of the prettiest snakes i have ever seen in my life and i am thinking about buying it.Its a Surinam(excuse my spelling)-a Female Red Tail Boa.I have never seen a boa like this one.She has a great temper and is a wonderful eater. She is 4.5 feet long.My friend is selling him at his pet store. He wants 200 hundred but i may be able to get her for 180-should i do it?I have an extra tank and all lights and etc.. If i get her what would be a good name?

I have 1 JCP and 1 BCI, so I do like the medium/large snakes. Does he have some sort of proof that it is a Surinam? Those aren't actually as common as people make it out, so they are often BCIs and not BCCs. The issue I would have with a female that can get 12ish feet long is feeding and housing. You'd need a very large tank for her (something that could accommodate a Burmese would be fine) and by the time they get that big, you'll probably need to feed beyond just rats. Rabbits or a similar sized animal would probably be necessary. And don't forget that you'll need someone to help you every time you handle her when they get beyond about 6-8 feet or so! They are gorgeous, but they are a bit too big for me. I like my nice smaller male BCI who shouldn't get longer than 6-8 feet!

of course you should they are beautiful snakes, but they are a large snake so consider how large the tank is and how much space is avail. the surinam is in the bcc family "Boa Constrictor consrtictor" and can reach 10 ft easily and some up to 12 and both prices are good for this species (at least they are for my area!) Happy Herping!
and yes i agree with one of the previous answers that some people sell the BCI as BCC to make an extra buck

That is definitely a great price for a Suriname! Just be sure to check her over for ticks/mites. Ask the owner to use a Q-tip to open her mouth and check for mouth rot etc.
Sounds like a great deal though!!!
I used to have a male, his name was Gary

If you have the money, equipment(lights/heat pads) and the room, go for it but rememeber red tail boas grow to be about 10ft if not bigger and will need a very large cage.

Oh, name her Suri.

Remember, she's going to get bigger, but it sounds like with the Carpet Pythons you are already used to big snakes. As long as you can afford to care for her properly, go for it. I said I was going to stop at four snakes, but we all know that isn't going to happen. Good luck!
