I think tests are really the only way a professor has of finding out who has been attending class, who has been doing the reading and who really gets it. College is preparing you for your future career, I think a test now and again is completely called for.

If you mean written exams - like the standard multiple choice, True or False, Fill in the Blanks - I say "Yes, they should be abolished.!"

For college level, more emphasis should be placed on how a student can express himself/herself; his/her grasp of the subject matter, etc. so I'd support Written Essay Exams and Orals too.

It's a lot harder to grade so professors should give such exams sparingly but always, thoroughly. Unannounced would be a lot of fun too! We just have to see who's really learning!

Mean, huh? It's just that I think I'd been spoon-fed enough from elem. to hi-sch. I'd like to experience in college what I'm suppose to experience in the real world - i.e, the work force, the rat race, etc., etc. I'd rather learn the hard way while still in college rather when I actually out there in the open.

As much as I don't like taking quizzes and tests, they are necessary. Students progress and how much they are learning in the class need to be checked and examination is probably the best way.

In either case, no. Whether your talking about admissions or during the actual semster exams are neccesary to see how much students are learning, now if most are failing the exams than the test should be curved.

This is my opinion (which is what you asked for)

OH HELL no !!!! in fact it should be increased.. I've actually met some of the substandards comming out of university these days.. may as well just sell them the paper and be done with it and we can just all quit wasting our time..

(you wanted my opinion right?)
