I bought some Hakari first bites but those apparently have been misplaced. I have taken a ziplock and crushed tropical flakes to a power and wet a toothpick and dipped in crushed flakes and put in watter above fry as i read on one site but none of them are making an effort to eat. is there anything else i can do? I have freeze dried bloodworms, shrimp pellets, and algae sheets in the house also.

First time fish momma here looks to be one ful blk and several dalmations like momma and a few that are a light beige now so i don't know what they will be later.

Being less than 24 hours old they may not be ready to eat yet. Try again in a few hours, they will probably eat then.

Serving crushed flakes with a toothpick should do the job. Just make sure the flakes are crushed well - almost like powder. They may just be eating when you aren't looking or are just not hungry at this age - try again. Otherwise, you can also try baby brine shrimp which are just right for fry to eat and actually are very healthy - helping those fry grow quickly. I'm including a link about baby brine shrimp for more information. Good Luck!

Your fish will eat when they are ready to do so. Molly fry are extremely hardy and are probably picking up small pieces of food out of the gravel. It will only take a very short period of time before they eat the food that the rest of the fish in the tank eat with out any crushing of the flakes. Livebearer fry are pretty self suficient shortly after birth.

Be careful with the ground up food as it can fall between gravel out of the reach of the fish and decompose there ruining your water quality.

they might still be TOO small to eat reg food.. try bloodworms.. or grind up lettuce and put it in the water to promote algae and bacterial growth... mollys that are a day old should still be able to eat that stuff

and try spirulina..type of algae that fish fry eat
