Well usually from what i have heard chocolate and pepperments are sood "foods" to eat before a test or before you study because they make your brain more active and willing to study. Study tips are basic:

Math: If the teacher assigns you the even #'s for homework, do the odds before you take a quiz or a test over it. Or go into tutorials (if you have any) and ask the teacher if they have any extra worksheets you could use to study

English: For vocab words take it slowly and try not to take it too fast. If you have at least a week or two study maybe 2 - 5 words a day and keep adding words until the quiz or test day. If it is a book, it is a good idea to go to sparknotes (not to read and get an overview of the book because you didn't read it), but to help you study for more in - depth concepts of the story and also take the quiz to see how well you do.

Science - Well science is pretty much straight forward. I usually just read over the notes thousands of times to make sure i know it, but also i do research and find more about protists or the human body while searching the internet (which i think is a better thing to do).

Second Language - usually second languages take time to learn so just study the vocab everyday, and as my teacher says "try to use spanish for at least 10 minutes everyday so you can use conversational spanish instead of just learning the vocab words and knowing them then not know how talk in front of a native speaker."

Well good habits are to try to learn the material in a way you can think "Oh I think this will be valuable to me in the future and will be fun to tell my friends because now i'm smart." Also set small goals and keep raising the bar. If you take to far of a jump your grades can go down drastically with the lack of memerization from staying up all night.

Tests/Quiz - Make a checklist of everything you need to study for. Then make sure you have all the notes (if you have any) over the material you need to study. Study each one at a time and make sure it is locked in your brain and that you can make a more thourough and brief summarization after studying all of the material.

Homework - If you have trouble if homework don't just sulk and go "I just can't do this" and leave. Ask your parents, teacher, sibling, or friend to help you on it even though it would seem embarrasing even if it was just a stupid error. Make sure you put your homework in a safe place that you will take to school the next day so you won't forget and get a 0. No one likes goose eggs. Also whihle doing homework DON'T LISTEN TO ANY MUSIC OR WATCH T.V it distracts you from your job. if you want to listen to music make it really really soft and make it ballad music.

Well thats all for that... wait there's more

FOOD!!!! - Make sure to eat a healthy breakfast everyday. A filling breakfast will get you through the day and plus there's lunch to count on. Make sure that you have a diversified lunch and breakfast. Have fruits and cereal one day, then the next day have oatmeal and orange juice. Lunch is important too (especially if you're in school). You also need a healthy diet to keep you going. Also the more you chew the more nutrition you get from food to help your body grow.

SLEEP!!! - YOU NEED AT LEAST 8 HOURS OF SLEEP EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! If you study late at night, instead try to start as early as possible to get at least 8 hours of sleep to keep your mind rested for the next day.

Organize - Organize material for classes and if your in high school wait for the first day of school to come BEFORE you try to buy supplies. Because usually you don't have to use 1/3 of the supplies you buy. Make sure you pack everything for school the night/day before the next day of school so you are confident of having everything for school the next day.

Also exercising is a good habit to do EVERY day so that you can keep yourself active and not to stressed on schoolwork. And stress is a bad thing too. Try to take breaks if you have a huge project that you forgot to do and only have one night left. Take 5 minute breaks and stretch and do some fun activity that can also keep your mind to keep thinking of new ideas for the project.

Wow this is long..... and i'm only in 9th grade and I know most of this stuff already. See I'm also studying ..... get it.

=P

I actually don't think this is basic.....

First and most importantly, don't pull an all nighter. Research has shown that the brain loses interest after twenty minutes. All nighters do not promote long-term retention of information. The best study strategy is to study in small blocks of time every night for at least a week prior to the test. That is the most important good habit. Read the textbook, take notes in class and from the text, ask questions about anything you don't understand. Make sure your study area is free from distractions.

Getting Started

Having a routine and a regular place to study is a good start in developing strong study skills. Some people study more effectively in the morning, others at night. Discover your best time and develop a schedule that allows for your peak study time.

Getting Organized

Whether you're in middle school or graduate school, you'll find that lack of organization is the main cause of low academic performance. With multiple teachers to answer to and different class schedules and assignments to track, unorganized students find themselves quickly falling behind in their grade point average (GPA).

* Keep a separate notebook for each class. The type of notebook will depend on the teacher and the assignments. Color-code classes if necessary.

* Keep good notes. Class notes, assignments, tape recordings (if the teacher allows it), and personal reminders help you keep up and not be surprised by that Friday afternoon quiz.

* Pens, pencils, computer ink, and other supplies should be on hand and convenient to your study area.

* Backpacks keep everything together and available. Make sure you routinely check the supplies in your backpack or organizer bag if you're often on the road or in different locations to study.

Education Benefits

Balancing Family, Fun, Work, and School

If you are returning to school and have a family and/or career, setting priorities is the first step toward time management — and that's the first step toward success. Yes, you might have to put favorite activities or social interests on hold for a while, but in the long run you'll find that any sacrifices were well worth the time invested in your education. (You can always go bar-hopping or tinker with cars later.)

Study guides help you find what works best for you. Good study habits can make the difference between just passing and making the dean's list.

all nighters=bad. none or little sleep is proven to make you forget the majority of what you studied the next day, and make you tired and not concentrating. it's better to just skim your notes and get a good night's sleep.
food=vegetables with dip, try low-sugar to prevent cravings, so you won't want to keep getting more snacks.
study tips=try reviewing with friends. or look through your homework and notes, the textbook usually has too much info that you don't need.
habits=always make time in your day for studying/hw/etc. even if you don't have anything you need done. you can always try to get some things done ahead of time.

The best place to do your studying is in class. Pay attention to what's going on and take notes. If the teacher thinks it's important enough to put on the board (or overhead or whatever), then it should go in your notes. As you gain experience with notetaking, you'll learn what else you need to put in there - it's different with everyone.

One of the most tedious things I ever did was also one of the most valuable. I kept two notebooks for each class, a rough and a smooth. The rough were the notes I took in class. That evening, I sat down and copied them over into the smooth book, using color coding to keep track of definitions, worked problems (in math and science) and anything else to make it useful. Doing that, I found, cut down my studying for tests almost in half - just the act of copying the notes over fixed them in my head. It was tedious, though.

When reading is assigned, do it before class. Keep a sheet of paper with you while reading. If there's something you don't understand, write it down and ask about it in class the next day. Writing it down keeps you from forgetting what the question was, which is otherwise quite easy to do.

Do your homework before it's due. If you have problems, ask about them before you turn it in (if your teacher allows it) or as soon afterwards as you can.

And stay positive. Whatever it is you're studying, millions of students have figured it out before you. If they can do it, so can you.

Good luck!

No all nighters. No caffeine it Fry's the brain. Try peppermints it helps you to stay focused, lots of school do it for elementary testing. Especially if you can get peppermint scented candles(usually sold around Christmas.) studies have found it to be very helpful.

Well for starters don't eat any candy or sugary food when trying to study. That sugar high doesn't last very long and it ends up making you feel more tired than what you already were. Try drinking lots of water instead of soda or coffee and I recomend eating a good meal or a healthy snack instead.
Good tips on studying would be to study in a really nice quiet area. Somewhere where you don't have a computer, tv , radio or phone ( turn off your cell phone if you tend to get lots of call or text messages). Always try to make studying easier. Make flash cards to help you remember and also make acronyms to help you remember difficult concepts, for example in math I use SOHCAHTOA alot. Make a SMALL study group where you and a COUPLE of friends can meet and study together. I emphasize on small and couple because from experience large study groups tend to turn into social gatherings rather than studying groups. People lose focus and you don't want that. You want to make efficient use of your time and really study and ask questions. Lots of times when you don't understand something someone else in your group will and they will be able to help you.
Ask questions in class. Lots of times if you don't understand something in class more than likely there will be other people who will have the same question as you but are too scared to ask and go to your teacher for help too. Teachers want you to ask for help. They are there for your benefit.
As for all nighters, I don't like them. I have noticed from my personal experience that all nighters leave me tired and I tend to forget valuable information. Instead devote time veryday even on the week ends for studying. If you study veryday you won't have to pull an all nighter.
