maybe not decide their custody order but how old to not follow what a judge says or who to live with

its in PA if it matters

It is funny that you ask this question. Some kids are smarter than their age and some kids are not even when they become 21 even though they are considered adults they cant do much.

it is not the age but their mental preparedness that the government should technically look at. People make bad decisions all the time. The judge has to look at the mental capacity of the kid rather than the age. Maturity or decision making skills don't come by age. Age is just a number!

It all depends on the situation and the maturity of the child there
have been cases where children as young as 7 and 8 years old
have been allowed to make that decision. If a judge says the child is to be under one or the others care then that is final and the only way to change that would be to petition the court and they would more than likely do an investigation of the situation
and make there decision based on that and any other evidence brought before them the biggest thing they look at is stability
in the home and what type of environment would be best suited for the child.

Each state has what is called the "age of discernment" which is an age where a minor can make decisions about visitation, custody, etc.

Usually somewhere between 14-16 years.

here in oklahoma a child can be as young as twelve years old to say who they want to live with. this happened to my daughter. her kids chose their farther at the age of twelve then the judge takes it in concideration.

the law Say's at 12 years old the child is old enough to have their say.....my wife and i have both been through bad divorces in the past... i recommend if it comes down to that ...make it your last resort
