You can debate this issue forever. Just look at what the pros and almost every amateur motocrosser is riding. The only 2 strokes I see at the track anymore are the minicycles. I think a lot of the freestyle guys may be on 2 strokes and also many fast woods riders prefer 2 strokes. I started racing motocross in the late 70's and of course always rode 2 strokes. I bought my first 4 stroke about a year ago (CRF250R) and I love it. The power delivery is so much smoother than a 2 stroke. The 2 stroke bike is cheaper to work on because there are less moving parts, but I'm never going back.

I moved from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke. It's easier to ride faster and I didn't have to work so hard to be competitive. I love them both, but for racing, I'm going to say 4 stroke.

As far as the power you get from a certain cc engine 2-stroke...hands down! 4-stroke technology is making leaps and bounds though, many 4-strokes are coming into their own with the 2-strokes. Another thing to keep in mind that the EPA is pressuring engine manufacturers to CLEAN-UP. The 2-stroke engine, in short, is an engine that in the near future will cease to exist as we know it today. They are just too dirty an engine (too many emissions).

From a basic standpoint a 2 stroek is better. But with the advancments in technlogy, a 4 stroke is now able to produce more power than a 2 stroke.

A two stroke will give more power, but a four stroke is generally easier to maintain. So it's a matter of which is more important to you. If you want all the power you can get, go two stroke. If you are trying to find a balance, go four stroke.

2 strokes!!! , the 4 strokes today are twice the cc of the same class 2 stroke to even compete,i.e. 250cc 4strokes against 125cc 2strokes and 450cc 4 strokes against 250cc 2 strokes. and the 4 strokes are so highly tuned, unlike the 2strokes, that the 4strokes are seeming to completely shell apart more and more often. so twice the cc, a engine running on the ragged edge of total failure-4 stroke (race bikes that is not a Honda xr or etc),
