Shorter ones last about 3 days, longer ones last a week or more
Heavier means you bleed a lot, you have to change pads or tampons quite often
Lighter means you don't bleed so bad, like you could wear one pad all day if you wanted, but that's gross you should always change at least every 7 hours to keep up good hygiene and make sure you don't smell.
Some think shorter lighter periods mean you will have trouble getting pregnant, was not the case with me though. Heavy and long periods can cause anemia.

Longer/Short periods: you ovulate earlier or later. Your body is just intune to a different beat.
Heavier/Lighter periods: Most doctors will tell you that lighter periods can be a sign that you will have trouble with fertility later in life. It's basically the lining of your uterus coming off since there's no baby. With a light period, you don't have as much lining. Could mean trouble, could just be your body.

well.. a longer period is typically more that 5 days, and a heavier one means you have to wear all types of padding just so you wont leak. I was blessed with the longer heavier, and trust me.. if you have it, you know what it is. Some women get theirs for 3 days, and only need to use the light tampon or panty liner.. others get it for 7 and need to use a tampon and pad. Does that answer your question?

It depends on the thickness of the skin that is being shed by your uterus and of course the blood is from the egg dying from not being fertilized. If you shed alot of skin your period will be heavier if you dont its just the opposite its lighter and shorter.

Longer would mean beyond 7 days.
Shorter would mean 3 days or less.
Heavier would mean the most bleeding you have in the middle of your period.
Lighter would mean when you just start your period, and at the end of your periods.
This is just what I think.

some woman bleed for longer than others
and some bleed heavier than others for a longer period of time, days,,, etc.
It is said that the later you start, the earlier you go through menopause,
not sure how true it is, but my mom and I both went through it in our thirties, and finished in our fourties.
