If you are going for more of an ethnic name I would try something like Lilliana or Rosetta.
I think Marita (I'm assuming you are going to pronounce it Mah-ree-tah?) would be a little too confusing for teachers, who are used to names like Marie, or Mary.

I agree with other posters. It's cute but could confuse teachers. She might always have to be correcting people, and after a while it's aggravating. And it's hard to get personalized stuff. It either costs extra money or you have to do without. My name is Buffy and I always hated that part of having a different name. But it is fun being unique. Nobody ever forgets your name!
