I have played hockey all of my life, but have not played on the ice in nearly 10 years. I am just getting back in to it now and my old Bauer Supreme 100's and nearly 20 years old and just about done. I am 6'5" 235lbs, and very demanding on skates. I am looking for something in the $200-$300 range.

You grew up using Bauers, so stick to the brand as you reintroduce yourself to the sport. The Nike/Bauer Supreme line can offer you something structurally solid for under 3 bills.

Make sure you go Supreme and try to stay away from the Bauer Vapor line. The minimal structure design of these skates will break down under your weight and the aggressive lace pattern will not be something that you're used to.

Visit sites like hockeyworld.com and hockeymonkey.com for some quality closeout deals (I saw bauer 100's on one of these 2 sites last week) before you drop full retail at your local shop.

I'm also 6'5" and about 245 lbs. and just recently got back into hockey. I bought a pair of Graf 503's for $200. They had been on the shelf for 2+ years, so they were quite a bit less expensive than the original price. So far, I've been very happy with the skate and am really impressed with Graf's heel cushioning and support. The cushioning raps around the ball of your heel, so the fit of the skate is great. Graf's don't allow for heel slippage at all. Also, Graf's have multiple different styles of fit depending on width of foot, width of heel, high arch vs. normal arch vs. low arch. So, they've got a skate to fit your exact foot type.

Lastly, I had been out of hockey long enough to not realize that there were more options than just CCM and Bauer. I was very confused when first looking into the different lines (CCM Vector, CCM Tacks, Bauer Supremes, Bauer Vapors, Reebok Pump, Easton, Graf, etc.) After reading epinions.com review of skates, I learned that Graf is one of the top skate manufacturers out there....and quite possibly the best.

If you want to try a new skate, Graf has a comfortable boot and really strong blade holders. I've been skating the 727's for 3 years now and I love them. Like a lot of newer blades, it has a nice aggressive angle higher in the back to help you get more speed. Bauer Supremes are great too. And the tuuk blades are pretty much indestructible. The tuuk lightspeeds are really sweet too.

I was in the same boat. I would suggest a pair of CCM ProTacks. I've had them for a bit now and I love them, hardly any break in time and they a ever so comfy.
