One of the best things that I do for my legs is use conditioner. My Mom told me to do this and it worked great. I always get a Family Size Conditioner. Before I get in the shower I rub a thin layer of the conditioner on my legs and shave a strip and rinse it off. I do that until I have shaved both legs. Then I get in the shower and wash my hair. When you get out and put lotion on your legs feel extra smooth and moisturized. I always cut up my knees when I use shaving cream but hardly ever when I use conditioner. Try it!

Make sure the body wash does not contain alcohol. I use some shampoo on a sponge in place of shaving cream and it works very well. I also use the cheap brands of shampoo in place of bubble bath - they are milder and much less expensive, and don't dry my skin out nearly as bad. Another soothing idea - when I shave my legs I also make an "oatmeal sock". Buy a cheap brand of regular oatmeal and put it in an old nylon sock (if I use a nylon anklet, I fill it about 1/3-2/3) and tie a knot just above where the oatmeal ends. Place it in the tub with you - it is extremely soothing to burning or itchy legs. When you squeeze the oatmeal sock, a creamy white liquid comes out that feels terrific. Hope these ideas work for you.

As a swimmer I shave my legs for big meets...

My first meet I did the same approach that you did, and it failed horribly, I found that I got terrible razor burn and it looked like I had a nasty rash.

Then my next huge meet I used a cheap shaving cream, and I didnt have a problem with razor burn or anything.

There are alot of cheaper shaving creams (you can even use one made for me), that are actually CHEAPER than using body wash.

If you aren't into shaving creams, I would recommend getting some aloe vera and rubbing it on the areas you are planning to shave before you shave. This will provide a barrier between your blade and skin (similar to shaving cream), and will also help heal your skin even after you have shaved.

Try shaving your legs while you are in the shower while your skin is very soft and wet. Apply a good lotion or vasoline to your legs immediately after shaving. For razor nicks you just have to be very careful. You may have to apply lotion more than once after shaving to help soothe your skin.

Since when is shaving cream more expensive then body wash?

Anyway.....you need to put lotion on after you shave. I think that is why you should use shaving cream, especially for women. It usually has a moisturizer in it?

Well, you can try depilatories, waxing, or try aloe vera gel, or baby oil and vitamin E mixed together.
