i read you should use toothpaste - a regular, minty flavor - and was really skeptical until i tried it on a precious xmas cd that had gotten very badly scratched.

dab a little in the shape of a ring around the hole in the middle, and gently but thoroughly rub it out to the edges in straight lines, like painting a sun. rinse over with water, rubbing it off in the same motion with a clean tissue until all traces are gone. dry it with a tissue and play it to see how it is - repeat if necessary - but everything will be gone after a few processes. it's simple and works just as well as one of those expensive machines you can buy at brookstone and other places.

I dont know about scratches but I know how to clean a cd. Take a soft damp rag and windex, spray the windex on the cd and with the damp rag, start from the center of the cd and gently rub down, DO NOT rub from side to side. Just start at the center and rub down.

toothpaste and car wax both work (i use car wax cause i have the whitening toothpaste and i dont know if the whitening stuff will affect it) put it over the scratch in a thin layer, let it dry, then wipe it off, starting from the inside of the cd, going out.
