Beef jerky is not a junk food... it is rather good for you. Here is a webpage.. check it out. It is high in protein and low in fat and carbs. The sodium is alittle high.. but everything has sodium in it. Otherwise it is not considered a junk food. Good luck for lent.

If you get chemically free beef jerky, then no it's not a junk food. If you just buy normal beef jerky then it is, as it's full of MSG and sodium nitrate, which is bad for you. But it is a good source of protein, and it doesn't raise insulin levels, and is good as a midday snack.
But watch out for what's in the ingredients. The more chemicals it contains, the more reason for you to give it up!

Any food that has no real nutritional value or that has high fat content is considered a junk food. To me yes beef jerky is considered a junk food.

hGood for you giving up the junk food...albeit for just 40 days.
I think it depend son the beef jerky. It all is high in salt. Te cheaper versions Will be high in fat too. try a mid-priced one and it should be fine. But as I say it is high in salt so don't go too overboard on it....nuts and seeds would be healthier...mmm almonds and brazil nuts are my favourite:-)

yeah I think it is. Are you trying to diet? If you want to detox and clean your body out of all the bad things a good diet is the fresh diet. Only eat fresh foods like veggies & fruits and meats NOTHING canned or in any sort of crap. You can do it for the weekend and it will help you revive your system. Or the juice fast? by a juicer and only drink the juice

No, I would not say so. Unless you're eating tons of it. It is rather high in salt, and possibly fat. It's original function was to preserve meat and make it portable. Used by trappers, hunters, Indians, etc.

Anything with preservatives is junk food (bologna, hot dogs, salami, pepperoni, etc.) They are empty calories (no nutritional value--just calories--like soda.

Nope. The nitrates that preserve it aren't good for you. But otherwise it's 100% protein, a wonderfully nutritious snack.

Yes. You find it in the snack food isle for one. Another, there is a ton of salt and nitrates in it.
