I always buy second hand vehicles. New ones depreciate the second you sign the papers. Seeing as vehicles are a poor investment to begin with, I prefer to spend as little as possible on them.

Cheers

I've had both new and second hand. And I have no preference. Depends on how well the individual vehicle works and serves my needs at the time. Right now I use a combination of bike, bus, carpool, fleet/rental. I have not decided whether I need to waste my money having a personal vehicle any more; too many alternatives

How long I kept them had nothing to do with whether they were new or used. I've bought 1-2 year old cars and flipped them in 6 months, my last "new" car was a '97 Subaru off the showroom floor w/ 32 km and died two months ago when someone ran into it and wrote it off with 195,000 km. Didn't even have a burned out bulb in all the years I owned it. *sigh*

My truck I drive now is used. I was friends with the previouse owner and he had it since new, 1989. The thing runs like it was just bought yesterday, and aside form some minor rust, you would guess that it was 5 years newer, at least. The thing it mint, with low milage. I've never owned a new vehicle, and in my family, and exteneded family, we have only owned 8 new cars in the entire family, and that goes back to when my grand parents started driving. Nothing wrong with a used car, they can run just as good, and in some cases, better then a new car.

Second hand would probably be two or three hands short for my cars. I will never buy a new car again. I can't see taking the depreciation hit on what amounts to a very expensive appliance.

Well it's a great second-hand car but it's gets us from point A to point B.

It was new when I bought it, but I have had it 5 years and paid it off! With the super low interest rates that were out right after 9/11, it made more sense to go new vs. used.
