There are two types of ballet dancing. There is the typical ballet that everyone thinks about, using flat canvas or leather ballet shoes. On pointe means that you are dancing on the tip of your toes using special satin shoes with wood to support you.

it means on your toes literally basically u are wearing satin ballet shoes with layers of different cardboard and wood at the toe part u wear wool or gel toe pads over your toe so its not painful but some people don't wear toe pads and use toilet paper or nothing i did a report on ballet so i know but i have been dancing since i was 2 and they are supper painful when your trying to break them in. ;)
