I think you mean "Jackanapes"

It is a corruption of "Jack Napis" derived from the nickname of a one-time Duke of Suffolk...and it means a conceited or impudent person, or a michevious child.

You are conflating it with "Knave" which is another term used for the Jack in a suite of cards.
