I'm a sophmore in high school..and i want to go to an ivy league school like harvard or yale. Do you think it would be smart for me to go to a private school for the next 2 years of school? Will it make a difference this far into high school?

It depends. Does the private school have a close relationship with the admissions people at Harvard or Yale? Do they offer advanced courses that your school doesn't? Help w/ extra currics?

Just cuz a school is private doesn't make it better. I'm from CA where that's certainly true. I'm not sure if there's a private school in this state that's better than the top few public schools.

It depends on how your high school is now. If your high school is good it's not really that important to go to a private school.....

Honestly, the best way to get into one of thoswe schools is :
1. Take harder classes (high grades in high classes = bonus points)
2. Have connections or make attempts to find/meet alumni of that school
3. Do well on SATs and ACT
4. Write a KILLER admissions essay!!!

GOOD LUCK!

I honestly don't know to what extent one's high school influences the decision. My guess is that it's less about that and more about what you do with your high school time...ie honors/AP courses, rigorous course load, clubs, sports, community service, other things that make you stand out/"special."

Perhaps an admissions person will weigh in here. Barring that, you could try to speak with someone in the Admissions office at some of your "choice" schools and see if they'll share any insights with you.l

it really doesn't matter you go. i went to a public high school in brooklyn and i know plenty of people who've gone to yale, columbia, cornell, etc.

take challenging classes, work hard, do well on SATs, take up some extracurricular activities, get some good recommendations.
