The US is as close as they have ever been. The "Beckham" rule is a great tool to allow the MLS franchises to build solid fan bases without getting into spending matches with each other, like the NASL. The problem is that American adults don't care much for soccer. The MLS has to get after the next generation and Beckham knows this. But I think that the fastest and most successful way to get Americans into soccer will be with the National team.
