Because it's something to get back into the lime light with.
Of course it sucks to find out this stuff, let alone who "owned" your grandfather, but come on. Like said above, what black person wasn't a slave then? Seriously, is this breaking news for Sharpton? And since he is such an advocate, when do I get my money? Hey, my family is christian, and there were christian slaves long before America was founded and I am sure one of them were fed to a lion in Rome- oh thats right- Slave doesn't count if it's a whitey, or atleast not to Sharpton. I know the whole fact we had slavery to begin with sucks, but if he wants to keep going, he'll have a long line to stand in considering the slavery just in England and Rome way long before slavery was here.
Where do you think the Americas got the idea of slavery? Thats right, thousands of years prior, all races and religions. Not just Al and his family.

Granted, Al Sharpton does do a lot for the black community.
However, he also makes himself look stupid in the process. He's loud and irritating if you ask me.
I like the more subdued type of advocate...like Oprah..she never black this white that's she just represents the black community with grace and style. She sets forth an expample without drawing attention to the past.

I would think he could have expected that to be fact. However, I still want to give the man credit where credit is due. Some call him fat, loser, stupid, etc. But I say that any man to take a public and outspoken stand for black Americans deserve respect even today. Be not deceived, Rev. Sharpton's presence yet helps the black community.

I guess he would rather have his ancestry tied to any white slave owner than strom thurmond's.
and maybe Trent Lott......
and maybe George Bush....
What am I saying, he is not too fond of white folks, he would stil make a big deal out of it!

He's not surprised that he's descended from slaves but that relatives of Thurmond owned them.
