Since The Departed is actually from a popular HongKong film, Internal Affairs. The plot in The Departed didn't actually change much compare to Internal Affairs. Is it fair??

But the things is, a lot of the scene looks the same as Internal Affair. The only big different is that one is filmed in America and the other one is in Hong Kong. . .

Martin Scorsese was long overdue for his directing award...I don't think it matters about the plot of the movie itself, it's the way in which it was directed.....may not be fair, but he truly appreciated it and that's refreshing... he didn't EXPECT it and was humble about his win, unlike a lot of the nominees last night...

The director has nothing to do with the plot. That is the screenwriter and in this case, The Departed was an adapted screenplay film. The director's job is to take that screenplay and direct it. He evoked terrific performances from his cast, and it was shot beautifully. Because of the job he did as director, he deserved the Oscar.
