Most importantly - Do nooooott procrastinate (waiting til right before the test to study).

^That's usually my problem that I need to get over =/

Anyway, some more ways to help study:

Flash cards: Help memorization in vocabulary, people, terms, etc.
Study with a friend: Reciting information helps with memorization because the information is being heard, as well as being read. Also, it's easy to get distracted when you are studying alone, so grab a friend and motivate eachother.
Take notes in class: Anything important your teacher says, make a note of it. Review your notes as soon as you can after class (maybe in a study hall?) or after school. Reviewing what you learned that day helps keep the information in your head.
Read the text book: If the teacher assigns a reading from your text book, or even just says "Tomorrow we'll be starting Chapter 9.", read over chapter 9 so the lesson will sound familiar the next day when the teacher is teaching it. You'll have a lot easier time learning if you recognize the information, rather than being completely confused and end up zoning out in class.

*UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING: Memorizing information is harder when you don't understand the material.

If all else fails, ask your teacher if they could help you after school, or find a tutor.
