2. Eat a good breakfast (not like doughnuts, and crap that's unhealthy)
3. Try taking a multi-vitamin.
4. Don't sit next to your friends.
5. Ask questions.

Make sure you have enough sleep and try to take notes during the class. You can get a review of what you learn by the notes also. Most important is to be interested in your subject.

Sit away from noisy or unruly people. If your friends distract you sit away from them too.
Then pay attention to the instruction and if you find your mind wandering, bring it gently back to the task at hand. Do this as many times as necessary but do not blame yourself if you don't always succeed. Above all keep your goals in your mind's eye.
As an extra measure I would write myself messages on mirrors, on computer screens ... Live in the moment!.
