i am 21 weeks preg.. i already have a 6 yr old son.. so i am hopin for a girl.. i am worrying myself about what this baby is.. my doc is tellin me they won't give my an ultrasound because i am too healthy.. although i was passing out and getting sick.. i need help convincing them to get me an ultrasound so it can calm my worries.. and i can start shopping since i am a single mother and can't pay for an ultrasound out of my pocket..

Well I know it isnt good to lie, or anything like that, but I understand what your going through, and I had an OBGYN like that. Sometimes its hard to find another DR as well that will take you on, or even that accepts your insurance. So if it comes down to it, go to the emergency room, if you tell them the situation, and that you want to know everythings ok, or you think something is wrong they will generally do one just to make sure things are all good. Dont get me wrong though, I am not telling you to rush to your ER and tell them your having cramps, or that your baby hasn't been moving, or something like that, just express your concern, they wont generally turn you down, exspecially if you have insurance. Change doctors. Most doctors will order a "routine" ultrasound in the 20 week range. Not for you to find out the sex but rather to make sure the baby is doing well, that the measurements are right, that the limbs are growing right. Even if you get an u/s, there's no guarantee that you will be able to find out what the baby is and even if they guess, it could be wrong.

You are supposed to get an ultrasound at around 20 weeks for measurements, check the heart, organs etc.....did they not do one? If not I would suggest talking to your Dr. again about this and also tell him your situation....I have had 4 kids and always had an ultrasound at 20 weeks to make sure everything was normal.they can also tell the sex of the baby by now but its not a gurantee that they will see anything, some babies have their legs closed and therefore they will not be able to tell but you should have one done around now regardless....Good Luck~

There are so many things to look for when doing a 20 week ultrasound. I was completely amazed at all of the things they look for to make sure your baby is healthy. Time to find a new OBGYN right away. It doesn't matter how healthy or unhealthy you are, no one knows what is going on inside your body unless they check.

Ultrasound is no guarantee that you will find out the sex of your baby. You can't always see the sex. Also, you can certainly start shopping anyway as there are plenty of unisex clothes out there.
Ultrasound should not be given if there is no medical reason for it as there have been no comprehensive studies proving its safety. The risks are only worth taking if the benefits outweigh them and I don't think shopping qualifies.

change your ob..i have never heard of anyone not giving an ultrasound b.c your healthy...go to the er if you have to ..ive had 3 ultrasounds so far and im healthy too..plus im paying to have a 3d ultrasound too...so dont let them tell u .you cant have one...good luck and congrats..

At 28 weeks you can get a "4D Ultrasound".
Imagine a 1 hour MOVIE of your unborn baby.
I saw my son's face before he was born.
