I don't smoke but I have and still am tempted to try it in the future but of course I most likely WILL NOT. The reasons why I'm tempted to do it are because it's oddly fascinating. It's not really that it looks cool but it just has it's own appeal that can draw one into it. It gives you a certain appeal as well although you also tend to look like a complete idiot smoking a death stick. The things that draw me away from it are much stronger such as a slow death, bad health, it ruins your outsides and your insides so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to try it.

I find that other people do it for appeal, buzz, and an escape.

The same reason that you don't smoke - we CHOOSE to and WANT to. That's why. It does help relieve my nerves - I don't know about everybody else but if they banned it all together there would be a bunch of pissed off people out there. Not to forget to mention more criminals since they would be sold on the black market instead of the gas station. The prisons would be more overcrowded than they already are. Is that what you guys want? We don't smoke in public places any more so why don't people just let smoker's enjoy their cigarettes by themselves where it wont hurt you and leave us alone! Geez! I'm sorry but I am a considerate smoker and I guess there are alot of people that are not because people want to act like we blow our smoke in innocent babies faces and that is not true for all of us.

I started smoking cigars when I was 16 years old. J-Lo did it... not a reason, I know, but it was encouraging. They cost me a lot of money, I enjoyed them, I felt classy and rich for smoking them... I liked that I could go into the city center tobacconist and I was treated with respect as I selected a cigar for that week - they didn't care that I was only just old enough to smoke, they treated me with the same dignity they'd give a wealthy business-man.

I switched to cigarillos a little while later - I wanted to be able to smoke more regularly. I still look pride in which cigarillos I smoked, though!

Now I smoke cigarettes and occasionally still miniature cigars. Cigarettes are part of a culture, and I switched because of the feminine brands that because available. It makes me feel good about myself - I can forget about the fact that I'm actually a short, pudgy college student sitting outside of a sandwich shop in the middle of a dirty city center and feel like a posh, happy, slim woman sitting outside a bar in a metropolitan city - it's a time to escape. When I'm having a smoke, it's time for ME. No-one else - not my college teachers, not my parents, not my boyfriend, not my little sisters - just ME. I can relax - it's selfish time, I guess. I can dream and plan and organize my thoughts. It's repetitive enough that I can feel like I'm not doing anything but thinking, but requires a small enough amount of energy that I can seem like I'm doing SOMETHING. Lol.

I think tough women who smoke look cool. Not the scatty kids you see hanging on street corners trying to have a smoke, but the women who don't care who smoke and rebel - like the lead character in the movie 'Domino' or Susanna in Girl, Interrupted.

It's a personal choice - I wasn't pressured into it, I chose to do it.

Thought it was cool, when we were kids, they did not have all the warnings about the chemicals that is in cigarettes, and we never dream ed that we would get hooked on the nicotine, I have tried many ways to try and quit, and just plain old will power probably is the best way , but it seems that I don't have much of that either. SO my best advice to anyone that don't smoke, don't start ,It's a dirty habit

Cigarettes do give you a "high" at first. That's how nicotine hooks you. You want that buzz and it takes more and more cigarettes to get it. Then, no more high, only addiction.

Biggest mistake of my life. Guess who's dying of lung disease? Even after quiting about a dozen times, I haven't been able to kick the habit.

This is a horrible, horrible, feeling of slow suffocation. I'd rather be shot.

DON'T SMOKE.

Yeah usually peer pressure, or because their parents did, or because they think it's cool, or because they're just curious. In my case, I decided I couldn't get addicted so I tried it to prove a point. But I did.

Peer pressure and bad choices. I started smoking when I was 12 and I'm 26 now, which means that I have been smoking for over half of my life already. :(

People give into peer pressure and they will do anything to be "cool" even if it does require doing something like smoking cigarettes.
