My son won quite a few awards in his junior/senior year in high school. Many of the awards are particular to that specific school...whether they're awards given in the name of a local person in a certain subject, etc. The "straight subject" awards at his school are given to the person with the highest grade in the highest level class in a subject...e.g. he was the only person taking multi-variable calculus in 12th grade, and was awarded that year's "Math Prize." There are prizes in each subject. He was also inducted into the *** Laude Society (you can research that online.) He was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. He was a Presidential Scholars Finalist. He won other awards based on state testing (ie "5th in the state in such-and-such a math or spanish standardized test"), etc. Hope this gives you some idea what academic student awards might be.
