I'm looking for a very simple, nice, romantic weekend getaway in California. My girlfriend and I live in San Francisco and I'm looking for a small cottage or B&B to spend a weekend, along the coast within driving distance of us! Does anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks

Certainly. Check out the Seven Gables Inn or Grand View Inn on Ocean Avenue in Pacific Grove. You are a couple blocks from the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannerty Row, and there is a very nice walkway along the water's edge. Very cool, very romantic. You can check them out at www.pginns.com.

I'm not a B&B person myself, but now would be a great time to go to Mendocino county, and it's littered with B&Bs. If you plan the trip right (and go within a month) you might catch the whales migrating north for the summer. Even if not, Fort Bragg is a great little town (you WILL spend at least one day shopping if you take her there... just to warn you), and if you're not stuck on a B&B the Beachcomber Motel has good rooms and great ocean views. Another good place (not as private though) is Konocti Harbor Resort, which isn't too expensive and has all sorts of activities. Then you can always go wine tasting along Hwy 101.

My very favorite B& B is Honor Mansion in Healdsburg. It is amazing! If you enjoy wine, you could spend the weekned wine tasting. There's a wonderful restaurant in Healdsburg called Zin that we recommend as well.
