I suggest getting the gas tank rebuilt by moyer fuel tank renu, at www.gas-tank.com
I just had both fuel tanks on my 1987 XJ6 jag rebuilt and they are notorious for being the most rusted fuel tank ever designed. I can say that I am very happy with the results, it cost me $299 per tank. Yours will be less because it's a smaller car and the tank is not as complicated. Moyer offers a life time rust free leak free warranty. I have tried repairing the rust with spot welding, epoxy, etc. It's not worth all of the aggrevation. Just rip it out and have it rebuilt. Also, be sure to change your fuel filter often, and especially before you install a rebuilt tank.

Remove tank, then clean & seal it to stop the rust. Buy a fuel tank repair kit from KBS Coatings. It works!
